Birth photography is a passion project of Jess'. Ever since I was young I was in awe of childbirth. I vividly remember watching a maternity ward show on TV and seeing a caesarean birth for the first time. I watched on with my mouth wide open, not believing what I was seeing. What an amazing miracle! There, just under the skin, was a perfectly formed little baby. It blew my mind! It was then that I decided I wanted to be a midwife. Well, it's not hard to guess that I'm not a midwife (although sometimes I do still catch myself researching courses), but now as a photographer, I figured why not combine two interests of mine.
As a mum myself to two young boys, I am still in awe of childbirth. What women all over the world go through to bring their precious little ones into the world is nothing short of a miracle. I took my camera into the birth unit with me, and my husband took some photos of my two boys and I just moments after each of them were born. I hardly even remember the photos being taken, but they are so precious to us now. Those first moments fly by in a whirlwind and in the midst of everything, and it's so easy to forget the details...the first cuddle, how tiny their little hands and feet are, and the raw emotions filling the room.
Cameras are like passports. They allow you to go to places and be present at events that you would never have otherwise had the opportunity to be, and I am so humbled when new parents allow me step into their world to capture raw and emotive memories for their growing family. Please feel free to reach out using the form below. I would absolutely love to hear from you!
